For this Shed Spotlight we're featuring Lea McFarlane's Hamptons-inspired sleepout cabin
Lea stumbled upon She Shed while seeking a high quality, multipurpose, affordable garden studio that could double as a sleepout for her teenage daughter.
While the kitset timber cabin can be made by two novices over a weekend, Lea worked with handyman and electrician, and enlisted family members who “helped dig the trench to lay the electrical wires” and painted her beachy hut over a couple of weeks.
“We painted the timber inside and out before building,” says Lea adding, “It’s the same colour as our house, Resene Botticelli blue“.
“We added underfloor wool insulation, electricity, one additional window, skirting and a lovely Danske Møbler mustard colour sofa bed and a Wi-Fi extender.”

The finishing touch for their sleepout cabin was timber decking replete with an Adirondack chair for soaking in the sun.
Lea chalks up her She Shed as a win, with her teenage daughter loving the cosy getaway, and she recommends the low-cost room extension to everyone needing an extra room.
Each compact kit is easily delivered nationwide with simple assembly instructions, video tutorials, well-labelled materials and speedy customer support, which Lea adds was “awesome”.
“The team gave lots of help from beginning to end plus afterwards,” she says. “They always made sure we got what we asked for and followed up to check it had arrived.”
